Lake Taupo 2ND XI start their season strong with a nail biting win over Central Senior Reserves and an abandoned fixture in rounds 1&2 of the Lakelands T20 Championship

18 Oct

After winning his maiden toss of the season LTCC skipper Josh Blatchford said we’ll have a bat. It was a solid start for LTCC with G.Dawson (27) and A.Chandel (44) putting on a 48 run stand at the top of the order. Throughout the rest of our batting innings wickets kept falling regularly and there were plenty of starts for our middle order, however we struggled to have someone kick on to boost us to a score of 150+. LTCC finished the innings on 135/6 with J.Bowles hitting a 6 back over the bowlers head on the last ball of the innings! We then took to the bowling crease which saw early break throughs for skipper J.Blatchford in his second over and a clean run out from B.Topless has Central 18/2 after 4 overs. That brought T.Yetsenga (75) and D.Hunt (25) to the crease. T.Yetsenga put on fireworks which brought central right back into the competition before he was dismissed by the LTCC Skipper in the 17th over. In the same over J.Blatchford (4-13) took 3-1 leaving central requiring 11 runs from 18 balls with 4 wickets in hand. An outstanding display of death bowling from A.Chandel and G.Chander saw central fall 3 runs short in what was a very tense 3 overs for both sides. In Game 2, LTCC were sent in to bat and made their way to 47/1 after the powerplay, following a good cameo from G.Dawson with 21 off 12 before he was dismissed. Following the powerplay the rain set in, which meant there was no play able to happen in the rest of the day.LTCC 2ND XI finish the weekend in 3rd position on the leaderboard, heading into a bye weekend due to labour weekend. Our next fixture is the start of the Lakelands 40 over comp, which is at home vs Tokoroa CC.
